Living a Life of Service

 #1- It's been really hot and I just needed a quiet/inside evening today so I ended up looking up Nate Bargatze (comedian) and listening to him on Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend.  Around minute 35 he says, "I really try to remind myself that it's not about me. I'm living a life of service."

#2 - I went to the arboretum yesterday, the last time I recall being there was over a decade ago when I saw 1 of my 2 favorite theater performances (both by the same company) - Nature - a walking outdoor play about Thoreau and Emerson.  

I could vaguely remember the theater company's name.  It took some false starts and I found it.  They had a new production in May that I just missed.  I'm glad they are still in business.

#3 - I've also been watching the osprey camera on occasion today from the arboretum.  The birds spent quite a bit of time preening and being.  Now they've nestled down for the night.

#4 - I also thought about bringing my niece and nephew to the arboretum.  The friend who brought me thought my niece had reached the age of paid admission but that my nephew would be free.  I looked today though and my niece would actually still be free too if we could get there this summer.

#5 - Plentiful, in season produce.  I'm enjoying quick lunches with hummus, baked tofu, and lots of seasonal vegetables this week, even a few cherry tomatoes from my patio..  Tasty, easy and delicious.

 

Strange Night

 #1 - I think I played my 5th ultimate frisbee game tonight (which is probably my 7th game in my life). I sort of understand it, and I made 2 catches and passes so that is a successful game for me. However we also used some "zone" defense today instead of guarding a person and I had to have a whole new tutorial on the sidelines.  My teammates are kind and patient and happy to explain.

#2 - Usually I eat an early dinner and then I'm done eating for the night.  However I came home hungry tonight and I'm not allowed to eat anything tomorrow (colonoscopy prep), so I had some fish and now I'm having a root beer float.  I never have ice cream right before bed, so that might be a bad idea, but I need something filling and so much of what I'd normally eat isn't an option.  Anyway, it feels indulgent.

#3 - I finished Virginia Roberts Giuffre's Nobody's Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it, but I started it Friday and finished it 3 days later. I would recommend it.  It's important.

#4 - I've been doing writing on Zoom once a month with a friend who is in the Peace Corps in East Timor.  She is 14 hours ahead, so usually we do late afternoon/early evening for me and morning for her.  Today we tried 6:30AM my time. I don't think I've ever woken up and gone straight into a writing practice with someone before.

#5 - I listened to an interview my friend Jill sent Katie Couric talking with Liz Oyer (who I didn't know), about the attorney general nomination, and I made the phone they suggested to Senator Cornyn's office, even though he's not my senator they said to call.  It was a small thing today, but it was something.

ASMR Studio

#1 - Since I posted about a spa last week, I will expand upon that theme now. I was going to send one of my cousins a Youtube video from Gentle Whispering ASMR -

And then I noticed what I wanted to say to her was already echoed in the comments below the video - "Why do we not have this in the real life? How come no one has opened ASMR studio yet. Pure bliss. The clouds of relaxation"   I wonder what percentage of the population has felt touch as loving as is depicted in this video?  As far as the adult population, probably next to 0%. Though someone else commented an ASMR studio where you could pay for this would attract a lot of creepy people, which I am also sure would be true. 

#2 - My favorite comment was, "Am I jealous of Elon musk no. Am I jealous of Jeff Bezos nope.. but the envy I feel towards Veronica has no name "

#3 - It's been a long time since I biked to my monthly poetry group, in fact I haven't done so since I've lived at my current residence. Today I finally did.

#4 - Someone read Billy Collin's poem Ballistics and I laughed out loud.

#5 - Seeing the holiday weekend up ahead with almost nothing planned, I decided to see if I could find any theater to attend. Most places weren't showing anything this weekend, but I finally found one Antonia that interested me. I debated finding someone to go with me, though I didn't feel inspired to make the effort. Two of the three shows this weekend were sold out and the last show had 1 ticket left.
